Saturday Morning Pottery - 4-Week Coil Built Vessel Course - Starts 4/12
The best thing about hand building is that you don't need a wheel to do it!
Coil building is a hand building technique that uses (you guessed it!) coils to create different forms. Unlike the potter's wheel, you're able to play more with asymmetry and take more time shaping your lump of clay.
I will teach you the basics of coil building that I have learned from my own practice and from attending workshops taught by other ceramic artists.
Since (re)starting my pottery journey, Animal House has become a safe space for me to learn and grow - while making many mistakes - and I'm grateful to share this special place with you.
In this 4-week course, you will learn:
Ideating your desired shape
How to roll coils
Various pinching techniques
Smoothing and scraping
Refining shape
Glazing
WHAT'S INCLUDED
6lb bag of clay
Bisque and glaze firing
Choice of glaze (or you may choose keep your piece unglazed)
CLASS SCHEDULE
These classes will take place Saturday mornings from 11am to 1pm starting April 12, 2025.
Each week will build upon the previous week, so please be sure you are able to attend both weeks before booking.
Week 1 - Ideation & Coiling
Week 2 - Continue Coil Building
Week 3 - Finishing & Refining
Week 4 - Glazing
Bisque and glaze firing of your pieces are included. Final firing may take 3-4 weeks to complete.
THINGS TO NOTE
To ensure the smooth operation of the studio and secure a calm creative practice, the classes are not refundable and it is not possible to reschedule sessions to other times.
Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting clay on. You’re welcome to bring your own apron or towel, though aprons are available to borrow.
